Marmot: Innovation In Outdoor Equipment
Marmot was founded in 1974 in Alaska by two University of Alaska students, Dave Huntley and Eric Reynolds, who shared a passion for mountaineering and outdoor adventure. The company began as a small club making high-quality down sleeping bags for their climbing expeditions. The name “Marmot” was inspired by the yellow-bellied marmot, a social mountain-dwelling rodent known for its survival skills in harsh alpine environments. From these humble beginnings, Marmot quickly gained recognition for its commitment to technical excellence and innovation in outdoor gear.
